Winchester Model 94AE Trapper, .357 mag. cal.

Winchester Model 94AE 16

Winchester Model 94AE 16

The versatility of this rifle is it's strength. For "survival" scenarios, this is the one I have.

Size: It weighs 6lbs. 10oz.(with a sling). Not the lightest but not very heavy either. Total length is only 34". Very packable if on foot.

Power: .357magnum Minimum size for Bear, but adaquate for mountain lions, human predators, deer, wild boar. Use 38 spl. for smaller game, target practice or keeping practice shooting cost down. Use CCI shot shells for snakes, and very small game.

SHTF scenario: What do you want? A handgun? A .22? A military stle rifle? A rifle in .357 magnum? While the military rifle is the best weapon, they usually are heavier than the Model 94AE and so is the ammo.

While not the best at anything, it is quite good at a lot of things and not very big or heavy. If I can only take 1 firearm, this is the one I want. If only it were semi-auto and I could get some varying size clips.

Handgun caliber Leveractions
by: Tom

K.I.S.S. "Keep it simple stupid".
The leveraction in a handgun caliber is a good choice. One cartridge, for a rifle and revolver.

Some strong points on favor of this choice.

Is it accurate enough for your purpose.

Common available caliber .

Can you learn to repair most needed repairs and maintenance.

Economical enough to purchase and practice with.

Economical enough to stock up enough ammunition for your purposes.

Clips/magazine can be a negative
by: Anonymous

Clips/magazines are just another thing to lose. Better to have a firearm that is not dependent on clips/magazines and can be reloaded while on a lull.
