U.S.M.C. KA-BAR

Marine Corps KA-BAR

Marine Corps KA-BAR

I will say this is one of the best knives I have ever owned. Its rugged and will take what ever you throw at it. I served in the Marines and carried this knife for 4 years and it did every thing it is supposed to do. I now use it when camping and hiking and it still does the job. It may be a larger knife but I can tell you that this knife will cut down a tree about the size of my forearm with out any trouble. It can replace a hatchet or saw in any pack or kit.

KA-BAR VS USAF Survival Knife.
by: George, Marysville Ca

I've carried both the KA-BAR and the USAF survival knife in Iraq. My KA-BARs will more easily take an edge that will shave the hair off my arm. The USAF issue Survival knifes will do the same thing with more work, but will also probably hold that edge longer.
I've used the USAF knife to cut steel strapping on palletized lumber all day with no problem, and saw a buddy pound an Air Force knife through a metal locker with no ill effect.(To the knife). It was designed to cut through the side of burning aircraft and through jet fighter canopees. It is up to anything asked of it. It is an excelent survival tool.
The KA-BAR is longer and has a little more "Reach". That in mind, and the fact that mine usually had an edge I could just about shave with, I usually carried the KA-BAR on my belt if I felt the need for something extra by my right hand.
They are both excellent knives. For a general all around tool I'd go with the USAF knife. For a little extra something in the dark? KA-BAR.
Like I told a nervous buddy one night;
"We're the thing in the dark that everyone ELSE is afraid of." KA-BAR helped make it so.
