Lever Action 30-30
Well, the truth is I have a myriad of use specific rifles, but what I am writing here approaches something I have seen that makes people give up on preparation. For some odd reason, everyone seems to think that they have to have an Ar 15, or an AK47 or some special rifle for combat/survival applications. I have pointed out to many a new prepper, that the lever action 30-30, a LONGSTANDING deer rifle, is the origainal Assault Rifle. This platform has killed more Indians, Cowboys, rustlers, criminals, Deer and probably a few things I havent thought of since its inception than any platform made today. Its not Magazine fed, but its fast and accurate. Its cheap compared to many of the other alternatives, and its so common that you could scrounge ammo in almost any hunting shcak or cabin in the country. A week after having this conversation with a close friend, I found an article covering all of the points I just made in SWAT magazine. While an AR or AK may be more conducive to combat, as far as general survival issues(hunting, self D, limited engagements) the levergun is as sound as any. Good luck, and keep your powder dry.
