Swiss Volcano Stove

by Aaron
(Seattle )

I don't see the Volcano Stove on here I have one and its Great you need to stabilize the base to cook cans but it works fantastic, It all comes together and packs away in a Martini shaker sized package, It has the stove, A 16oz? (give or take) bottle and a 8oz? cup all the components are metal, and the cup and bottle both slide into the top of the stove. the stove part is a Large cup with vent holes cut in the side and a square hole cut in the side to feed fuel in, one great aspect is you cant put large pieces of wood or fuel tabs in it so it burns very hot and is pretty much idiot proof. keeping an eye on it and lighting it with fuel tabs, you can boil water or heat a can of soup in around 3 min. you dont even have to take the soup stew out of the can to heat it it fits right in. A new one will run you about $15-$20 and a Surplus one wich I bought (it was basically new apart from a dent or two) cost $10 from the local Army surplus, And A Molle insulated water bottle pouch Modgear or off brand Holds the Stove perfectly and its quiet if you drop it. In the front zippered section on the pouch holds a small bottle of ronson lighter fluid, 6 coghlans fire starters, a box of matches, A pill bottle of cotton balls, a bic lighter, And a few feet of Tin foil folded up, So the stove and everything you need to start a fire can fit in that one pouch, The pouch itself is $20 but its worth it. It has Molle rows and columns 2 vertical molle straps and 2 D-rings for a shoulder strap or for Alice Clip attachments. Also if you want to use canned sterno or alcohol fuel you can drop it in first and then set the bottle or cup in the stove above it, But from experience tinder works great, and a small pile of tinder and sticks like 1/4" around or less, will heat up a cup or can of food and even put out a good amount of heat to keep you warm while your at it.

Good Idea
by: Tennessee

This is a good idea for anyone to own. They are lightweight and a good way to boil water. These can be had for around 10 bucks plus shipping from Cheaper Than Dirt. I don't have one because I went a different route. These are made of all aluminum which I do not like. My way was very expensive but will last a very long time. I got a "Bush Buddy" stove, a "Snow Peak" titanium cook set, and a "Nalgene Guyot Design" Stainless steel water bottle.
The Swiss Volcano Stove will work and is FAR better than not having anything. But consider upgrading and get away from aluminum if you can. Good Post.
