Survival Gear In Layers

When most folks talk about survival gear, it is one dimensional. I would suggest to all that you think about survival in layers. A localized disaster may only require that you get out of the way for a day (tornado, etc). A regional disaster could require a longer set of provisions. As for the 3 day bug out bag, remember that during Katrina, it took 7-10 days before relief really took place. A national disaster could last how long? All I am suggesting is that we start thinking of survival in layers. What do you need for overnight, a few days, a few weeks, or for an extended period. The most important thing is your brain and to know when to get the heck out of the way of what ever it is that is the threat. Keeping your vehicle's tank full and a stash of cash is the best basic survival gear you can have. Of course, food, water, a warm sleeping bag and some kind of weapon is nice too.
