Springfield SOCOM 16 M1A rifle. This rifle chambered in .308 is accurate, extremely reliable, and very compact for a .308. Add a 25 round magazine and a sling and you have a superior self defense and hunting rifle. This rifle is essentially a shortened semi automatic M14. This is the prize of my gun collection. I don’t recommend this as a home defense weapon if you live in an apartment or neighborhood as the .308 has the tendency to fly through plenty of plywood and dry wall. However in an emergency or disaster scenario when all bets are off this weapon is very formidable. It has a ported barrel which really reduces recoil and muzzle climb which keeps you on target. This weapon is expensive and buying quality spare magazines is also expensive. .308 ammunition is usually in good abundance but is also expensive. If money is no object the M1A rifle is the way to go in my opinion
