IN MY OPINION THIS IS THE GREATEST BATTLE RIFLE IN HISTORY. IT WILL OPERATE IN EXTREME HARSH CONDITIONS AND IS VERY ACCURATE IN THE HANDS OF AN EXPERT. IT WILL OPERATE IN MUD AND SUBZERO CONDITIONS AND WILL SHOOT CIRCLES AROUND THE THE FAMOUS AND OVERRATED AK-47. THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS ISSUED EVERY M-14 IN IT'S INVENTORY IS A TESTAMENT TO THIS RIFLE. THE MILITARY PERSONNEL IN IRAQ HAVE NOTHING BUT PRAISE FOR THIS RIFLE.

The rifle that McNamara abandoned.....

I've often thought that the M14 has been too often overlooked and underappreciated. I do understand that the US military has used it to good effect in Afghanistan and Iraq. I always thought the US military should have kept it as a squad marksman rifle alongside the M16. I understand the positive aspects of the M16, but personally, I always like a more powerfull full sized cartridge, e.g 30-06, .308, 7.62x54R, .303 etc. As with most things in life, there is no 'one size fits all' rifle. I'm glad to see the M14 has not faded away!
