SKS Tactical Carbine

by Bobby B.
(Longmont, CO)

My SKS is a Chinese (or Norinco) model SKS with a single piece gas block. This takes away some of the parts that I feel are not needed. For an idea how this type of gas block functions, think AK-47. No valve. The rear sight has been removed in favor of a Tech-Sights TS200 for a better sight picture and a much longer sight radius. The front sight post has been replaced with a Target model. the front end of the chrome lined barrel has been threaded and a Phantom flash hider affixed. A buffer tech recoil buffer is seated in the back of the top cover to help tame the recoil. A spring loaded firing pin has replaced the stock firing pin and portions of the lower rails of the bolt have been removed to allow the insertion of a magazine while the bolt is in the forward position. The top handguard over the gas tube is perforated blued steel. Contact points on the action are all polished to ensure smooth operation. All of this is seated in a Tapco fusion stock without the rails. It's an accurate model with a cartidge powerful enough to hunt with. It's also light weight and more compact in the configuration it's in which makes carrying it for long hours over rough and uneven terrain an easier task.
