I have read many books on the fighting on the Eastern front in WWII and in most books there is usually a comment or two regarding German soldiers picking up and using Nagants, prefering them over the Mausers for fighting in - 20 sub-zero weather.
In most cases it seems the tight tollerances and impeccable over-engineered quality of the venerable Mauser lost out to the rougher but more robust and reliable Mosin-Nagant when a soldier's life was on the line. Undoubtedly ammo availability played a factor in this as well, but i like to think those Germans who survived the war to tell of such comparisons did so because of the M91/30's ability to get any job done, in any weather.

Mosin Nagant. by: Tako
I have one that i picked up for 90$ a couple years ago. It came with a bayonet, old oil can, belt pouches, and some rounds. I have put hundreds of rounds through this old gun. It still shoots amazingly. You can pick up ammunition for fairly cheap surplus as well.

i agree that does sound nice. but not all Mosins shoot so accurate (luckily mine does :D i have 91/30 as well). But for survival the m44 with its shorter barrel might be better.

Sounds like an awesome rig, but where's the pictures? I'm sure anyone who reads this would love to see what it looks like.
