Really strong and very reliable. I would take my Remington 597 over anything. Its got a ten round mag and i use the iron sights. Ammo is cheap and there's plenty of it.
Cabelas sells a high capacity magazine for the model 597, 30 rounds. Does anyone have any experience with these ? The older models used to have a problem with the factory 10 round clip not feeding correctly... you can fix it with a little filing here and there, but apparently they have this problem corrected with the newer models.
Other than the Ruger 10-22, I'm not sure if there are any other .22's with a high-capacity option detachable magazine.
I like a detachable magazine, even if its just a 10 rounder, you can have an extra mag or two loaded and ready to go, takes just seconds to reload... versus a tube fed magazine where this is not possible.
