Ontario AFSK Pilots survival knife

by Giuliano Toniolo
(Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil)

Well, I like that knife for a number of reasons. First itīs a good affordable knife. Itīs not as big as a Marine kabar (which I also have), so itīs good for smaller tasks, such as carving notches, skinning game and small camp tasks in general. Itīs full tang (or rat tail) Iīm not quite sure. It has great smashing and hammering capabilities and the blade is quite thick, so it wont break very easily. You can do batoning with it too. Itīs 1095 carbon steel and the serrations on the spine were designed to cut thru aircraft metal. I dont like the upper handguad though cause it prevents you from choking on the blade, but Iīll have it cut off to improve its performance. The sheath is nice and has a storage room for a sharpening stone. ī

Iīve added a survival kit to its sheath which has items that are redundant to my main survival kit, in case I dont have them anymore I could still get by with the items from my survival sheath.

I like it mainly cause I can still do a lot of batoning but itīs not too big for smaller survival tasks, such as skinning, notching, so in my (humble)oppinion, it has the main features a good survival knife must have. Iīm not saying, though, that itīs the best one for such purposes but, like I said, Itīs the one I can afford, once Iīm brazilian and all good survival knives here, either the Brazilian ones or the imported ones, are too darn expansive if bought in Brazil!
