New Knife!! Gerber LMF II

Gerber LMF II

Gerber LMF II

Recently, I found a great deal on a Gerber LMF II in Coyote brown. WOW, What a great blade! This thing is a TANK! The blade is healthy and rigid, it was designed to be able to hack your way out of an aircraft fuselage if you crash. It has a pommel that is a spiked glass breaker. The handle is Kraton type material. IT has holes made in it so that it can be lashed to a pole for a spear. The blade is half serrated and the knife is VERY VERY SHARP. The sheath is unique, its hanger has a belt hanger, a leg tie strap(with grip rubber) and MOLLE straps to attach it to gear. All things weighed, the LMF II is an excellent blade! New they have come down a little, and are now selling around $79, I found mine in an ARMY surplus store and got it for ........$50bux! The sheath is a combination of a stiff nylon hanger and a hard molded sheath with slots around the edges. The sheath also has a quicky sharpener made in it, it is like a mini crock stick. IT works well for a quick sharpening on the spot, but for a proper honing. Anyway, lots of knife for the money, good price and a lot of bang for the buck.

Gerber LMF II
by: Anonymous

After 23 years in the military I've carried and tried several knives in my time. I purchased one of these several years ago before my first trip to Iraq. It has survived two trips to Iraq and one trip to Afghanistan. I wouldn't trade it for any other knife. It has been abused with three oversaeas tours and it holds it's own.

Bear Grylls
by: Spook45

Yea, two of my friends bought these this wkend. As a basic general purpose survival knife, it is excelent. They are based on the gerber silver trident(designed by a retired navy seal) and the Bear Grylls knife has some of the same design features. The pomel is a knurled flat metal chunk that can be used as a hammer. The handle is just like the other gerbers from a similer series. The blade is just like the LMF, partial serate and on the back of the blade it has striker surface for the striker rod that fits on the front of the sheath. The sheath also has a diamond sharpener on the back and it is the same basic design as the mil spec model. It really is a lot of kniife for the price. The evil walmart is selling it for $49.99. There are other models too that are not quite as comprehensive.

Gerber LMFII / Bear Grills connection
by: Anonymous

I was just looking at the prototype new survival knife comming out for world wide distribution in November 2010.
This "Bear Grylls specialy endorsed and logoed" brought out and endorsed buy Gerber and Bear is basically the Gerber LMFII/Prodogy blade with a differently moulded handle and stainless steel pommel. The sheath features an integrel flint rod with a pouch on the underside with survival info sheet included (a great idea)

LMF II - Bet your life on it.
by: Big Tone

Reasureingly hefty and a knife that inspires confidence.
I would be feel ready and able if i had to go into a SHTF situation with this knife, a good hatchet and a quality multi tool.
Large bladed Rambo type survival blades are sooooo 80's and a quick look on the internet will show you that none of the survival guru's use anything much over 5" anymore with the exception of the iconic Kabars and Randell knives.
