My Springfield M6 scout survival rifle

by anthony twidale
(Dunnrock, Australia)

After dropping my Henry AR7 survival rifle and snapping off one of the plastic ears that wrap around the receiver effectively rendering the rifle useless due to the inability for the stock to perform it's most basic function' i realized i needed a firearm that was a whole lot better made and that could perform flawlessly with any kind of .22 ammo (and .410 as a bonus)under any conditions.
The rifle, (while looking cool and purposeful) proved to be finicky with what ammo it would function with, and while the concept was great, the quality of most parts integral to proper function and longevity of the rifle seemed to be sacrificed in order to make the rifle light and floatable. In the end it all seemed too gimicky.
The answer came in the form of the Springfield M6; Light, stainless steal, integral ammo storage for multi caliber handiness and a breakdown feature that reduces the rifle to the same size as the AR7 in a faster time (not to mention putting the rifle together), the springfield will handle anything that presents itself in front of me to be eaten.
Whether it fly's, swims, crawls, runs or slithers.
Whether the food is tiny in size or as big as a boar or deer, with the ability to shoot any sort of .22 from low velocity, shorts, longs, ratshot, ultra high velocity to .410 shot, solid rifled slugs and flares all in a firearm that cant let me down.
I can drop it, run over it, burn it, drown it or use it as a boat paddle or walking stick. And i know that if i'm faced with something bigger than me with teeth, or happen to wander into someones drug crop, a .410 solid beats eight rounds of .22 anyday.

Bought one already
by: Anonymous

I recently found on one gunauctions.com. I set up a search and it contacted me with a buy it not option. I paid the $500.00 as soon as I saw the option. Great survival rifle, I have already wrapped it ordered and installed the scope and rail, and also wrapped a survival knife with flint to the barrel.

I would like to buy an M6 22Lr.22mag or 22horn over 410. I don't mind paying a bit higher than going rate for a good clean gun.

Please call me if you have any leads

Springfield Vs CZ
by: Anthony Twidale

I have one of each, the Springfield is a parkerized hornet and the CZ is a S/S 22lr. As far as differences go asthetically there seems to be very little. The most striking however is in the hammer safety. On the CZ the safety is between the positions of bottom barrel engage and top barrel engage on the hammer with a twist of the knob in the middle position engageing the safety as i'm sure you all know.
The Springfield however has a "crossbolt safety"/button situated on the action under the hammer.
I like the Springfield set up better as it seems alot simpler, less finicky and certainly more "grunt proof". (No disrespect intended)
Also the trigger on the Springfield just seems to be alot smoother and softer than the CZ though i'm not sure if this is the norm or if it has everything to do with age.
People who need a fast followup second or third shot arent hungry enough and need to practice more.

another looker
by: michael

Gentleman, I've been on the hunt for a m6 lately after finding one of my fathers in the basement. I know some jokers are trying to sell them for a 1000 on internet bid but if someone has one they would like to unload for a fair, reasonable price. Please contact me at snow-md@hotmail.com

ar-7
by: Anonymous

i never had a bit of problems with my ar-7 charter arms. and hear that the henry company makes them even better. as far as the guy who bragged up the single round of 410 shell round, that is fine and dandy until u miss. the beauty of the ar-7 is that it floats, if u are in canoe or kayak, fording a stream. and u miss, u still got semi auto 7 rounds left. i would surmise the marlin 70-p papoose" breakd down 22 is a good weapon also. or why not nut bring a S&W with a 4" barrel l ike usaf pilots are issued?

I own the .22 Hornet
by: waxtheknob

I am very happy with my .22 Hornet version. Although standard .22 LR is more economical (Hornet ammo is rather expensive), The Hornet is far superior is every aspect. If you are in a survival situation, you will not be concerned about saving pennies, you will be concerned with eating. Hornet is the superior choice. The only negatives with the Springfield Survival Rifle is the trigger, which is designed for cold weather mittens, and the trigger guard which prevents it from being folded. I have seen pictures of the rifle with a standard trigger and without the guard, but not for sale. If you are in the market for a survival rifle...I highly recommend the Springfield chambered for .22 Hornet.

I own one!
by: Chas

I have a stainless in box with manuals. It has the Czech Republic stamp on side. It shoots 22-hornet and 410. I want to sell but I do not know what a fair price would be. From what I can find they are priced form 550 on up but I don't know what they are actually selling for, or worth. It is a cool gun and I don't want to sell to cheap. Just want to be fair. It has only had a few shots put through it, under five. Any info would be appreciated.

awsome rifel
by: Anonymous

my m6 is the coolest rifel i own. I had the 22 Hornet and like a fool traded it off (big mistake). I didnt know what i had. Luckily a few years later I got my hands on another in 22/410 stainless. Ifound a mount to fit and put a 3-9x32 scope on it. I have found it to be a dandy companion in the woods and the range. I also added a sling with ammo loops and carry 4 extra 410 shells. I carry a veriety of ammo for differnt task. If you can get one you wont regret it.

My M6 Scout...Love it as well!
by: Steve in Arizona

I own an M6 as well, and this is a great little firearm! Super-cool, and a real attention getter. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, and as stated above, it's virtually indestructible! Weighs in at just a shade over 2.5 pounds, and 18" broken down. Trigger guard is "spring released" and easy to remove for full fplding capability. Many people question whether you can fire a .45 Long Colt through it, and be advised that Springfield Armory says "NO"! It has a "full-choke" barrel, and they also do not recommend a .41 Magnum either! Get a long stainless steel bolt and wing-nut to replace the "locking pin", or purchase some extras from Springfield for $7.50, just in case you lose one. Mine has a factory "red dot scope", and it works great! If you plan on keeping your M6 forever like myself, you might want to invest in having Springfield Armory "Armory Kote" it for a cost of $140.00 plus shipping. Takes abot 4 weeks, but when you get it back, it will be even more indestructible than it was when you sent it in! Buy one of these...you will love it!

Dropped my AR-7...
by: Anonymous

Would you consider selling your AR-7 at a VERY reasonable price since it is now essentially useless. I'd like to try repairing the broken part(s).

1 of the best
by: mep quebec canada

m6 scout rifle is 1 of the best for survival situation in the wilderness ,easy to pack,2 caliber in 1 rifle (OK you don't make big game hunting whit a 22lr/410 combo but in a survival situation it's ease to hunt small animal like
snake, rabbit and bird for food)lower price of the ammunition(you can carry a lot of 22ir ammo in a small pocket) ease to use for women and children you don't explode your luch whit this caliber if you shut small game like squirrel,410 can be use on small duck or flying bird and whit a slug,it's
offer good power for personnel protection
for this reason and many more the springfield m6 scout is legend in survival rifle
