My options based on my experiences...

Superior Arms S-15 carbine with scope on it. My personal design.
I've gone with a variation of the M-4 carbine in .223/5.56 caliber. My M-4 has a low power optic on it which is a 1 to 4 power Millett DMS-1 Tactical Scope. The purpose of the low power optics is not to make my carbine into a sniper rifle. Low power optics add to my shooting efficiency. I can, without a doubt, hit a target from zero to 400 meters with no trouble at all. My carbine has the collapsible 6 position stock, is easy to maneuver, very acurate and is very, very dependable. My back-up handgun to my rifle is either a 1911 pistol, a Sig Sauer P-220 in .45 acp or a Glock 22-C. Instead of going with a survival knife, I purchased an M-4 type bayonet to use. This gear is pretty much what I had for my 19 months in combat in Viet Nam. I also keep a hatchet and a machete in my rucksack should I need them. I also keep a hammer in my kit too. A small Swiss Army knife rounds out my emergency supplies.
