My Buckmaster and Recon
I carry both of these just in the just in case mode on short close to home type hunting,. for times when I know I am going somewhere where I won't be able to go home anytime soon like on a boat or an SUV break down way out in the middle of no where I carry my Trail Master.
With a trail master I can hack, split, stab and even club with this most important tool of the woods.
The Buck Master I hate the so called Sawback on it(whatever),..32 or so years I've been out in the woods here in Alaska both as a civilian and a soldier I have never needed a saw since I had an axe and my trusty fixed knife. With a trailmaster (I've had close to 20yrs) you have a longer cutting edge then the head of an axe and still have the heftiness needed to do the job.
Otherwise I would take the Buckmaster out more then any other,..I had hoped that Buck would have came out without the saw tooth, cause to me it harder to take out of a sheath and would rip up a leather sheath in a hurry. Speaking of sheath, those of you know that the original sheath came with a nylon belt loop buckle setup. I changed it for a shorter wider leather one from a cheap copy of Rambo 2 sheath. I hated the flopping around I had with the longer nylon belt loop, this shorter leather loop ride more snug and higher on the hip. The hollow handle is very good to carry Matches which is what I carry in it rather then fishing line and hooks or surgical needle and thread. Matches more practical. The other change is I dipped the handle in the stuff they use to put rubber on handles of screwdrivers and stuff,.works great (two to three dips by the way). I carry the original sharpener on back of sheath and a Gerber diamond sharpener in the front pouch. Great set up for me anyways.
The recon I can get by with, but would op for using my trailmaster for real work,,I just like the recon for more looks then anything. It well do the work though I'm sure with a few more swings.
If I where young enough and in Battle I would carry the Recon.
Just thought I'd add my two cents to this world of knives. :)
