Marlin 336SS

Stainless Steel Marlin 336. 30/30

Stainless Steel Marlin 336. 30/30

I bought the 336SS based on availability of rifle, decent ammo to care of most problems, cost and availability of ammo. I have plenty experience with M-16 / M-4 but always wanted a bigger round. The 6.8SPC has not caught on and the 308/ 7.62 is getting pricey for a plinking round. Once I got used to the lever action, it became a no brainier decision. Sorta have to have faith our country's future won't come to the requirement for a semi auto M-4.... Also have a Glock 9mm and a 22LR bolt. Good shooting.

Marlin 336 .35Rem
by: Aydrian Steele - FL

My marlin has a blued finish with walnut furniture on it. its basically like the 1895 its drilled and tapped for weaver mounts i have a red dot sight mounted on mine its good for the range of the rifle out to about 100-150 yards. i also took a white out pen and highlighted the rear and front sights for easier aquisiton in dim lighting. the 35Rem is a good caliber for north american game like whitetail and black bears and other light skinned animals. the recoil is considerably less than a 30-30 of the same make and model (i have personally fired both its just a personal opinion though) and its fairly light weight even with optics mounted on it.

why this rifle
by: Anonymous

I purchased this rifle as a good all around shooter. It has better knock down power than my AR15 ( used for small varmints ) and a longer reach than my .45 pistol (which I use for home defense.) as a hunting rifle its been noted as the weapon of choice for over 100 years as the number one dear rifle around. Its cheaper than an M1 .308 and easier to maintain in most environments. Mine is stainless and I feel that having the synthetic stock helps in this department as well. I would consider this to be my first choice to carry over My other rifles as finding ammo is easily found almost any place you go. It doesn't draw unneeded attention as your carrying a weapon to start world war three with. Its built of stronger materials that hold up in almost any environment. mine came with a mount for a scope. ( using a 3-9x40 weaver) The only draw back I see is I wish I could carry only one type ammo for my choice of pistol and a rifle all in one. But if only one weapon was to be used, Id pick this one.

30-30

This rifle has some advantages that are often overlooked. It's weight is light compared to most scoped rifles. If you have to carry a rifle every day weight will make a difference.
Stick with iron sights, these will work well for most situations inside the 30-30 cartridges intended range for hunting approx 200 yards max. Peep sights may be easier for some people and more accurate. These work come rain or shine, light or dark, and no batteries to fail.
The overall length of the carbine is reasonable compared to some long rifles. This aids you in hunting in the brush or in tight areas as you may find inside a home defense situation.
Some states require no cartridges in the magazine if the rifle is in your vehicle, use a elastic butt cuff that holds 8 cartidges, this will keep your ammo available and with your rifle if you need it quick. while this set up is not as quick to load the entire magazine. Loading the first cartridge into the magazine and having a first shot to shoot is faster than loading a detachable magazine fed Ak47 rifle hands down. If you don't believe me try it out with a AK47, remember the chamber on the AK47 has to be charged after the mag is inserted, the lever action requires you to open the breach by working the lever down, inserting the cartridge and close the action. This can be accomplished with the rifle shouldered, the way the leveraction was meant to used. While this is not a true modern combat weapon, it can be purchased at a reasonable price. When you combine it with a good high capacity pistol like a 9mm Glock, you have the ability to defend your family and have some serious self defense firepower.
