Marlin 1895 in 45-70

Marlin 1895

Marlin 1895

I have many rifles but I use the Marlin as my primary survival Rifle in 45-70 caliber. I back it up with a Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag with 300 grain bullet. I also usally carry a small 22 caliber revolver in stainless or Beretta 21 in 22 caliber with ammo for rabbits and small game or snakes when backpacking. If it were a man made emergency or conflict then I have an entire different battery of weapons for that occasion that I hope never comes.
I would still have a 22 long rifle weapon of some type for small game with low noise and recoil. My personal defense weapons would have to do double duty so I would take a cashe of one each semi-auto rifle, handgun, and 12 gauge shot gun with ammo, repair parts for each. The hand gun would be a popular caliber that ammo is easily available for like 9mm,40 S&W even though I perfer .45 auto. I think everyone should should have at least a 3 gun battery that they can shoot very well, pratice and have lots of ammo for each. I have a small hand press with all the reloading conpontes necessary to reload on the fly if necessary for the semi-auto pistol that I would take a long. In stead of throwing away the dryer lint form my clothes. I save it in a plastic bag for fire staring in my survial kit. I also save all the plastic peanuts from packages for starting.

Marlin 1895 Stainless
by: Philip - Colorado

I carry a model 1985 stainless rifle in 45-70 caliber backed up by a S&W model 460 short barreled revolver with very heavy bullets. My rilfe is not scoped but reloading affords me ammo to practice with. I prefer an open sighted rifle rather then a scoped one for survival. My mind set is always concerned about dropping the rifle and breaking the scope that does not have open sights. The best of both world would be a rifle that has both open sights as back up for a quality scope. I often carry a Beretta model 22 semi-auto for concealed emergency back up in case my guns are taken from me. I would still have the means to shoot small game for food, and have some protection from wild dogs and men at close range. My if it is all over unban war guns and survial in a civial disturbance are AR-15 in 223,6.8m,AK-47 and my favorite HK-91.Along with survival guns don't forget to add to your suvival several good quality survival knives. I like Sog and Cold steel.

Marlin 1895 GS
by: Anonymous

We purchased this weapon for survival should the fecal matter collide with the atmospheric excitation device. It is a very hard hitting compact weapon. The modern factory loads perform well.

I have no complaints with this weapon at all. When it is fired it lets you know you have a force to be reckoned with.

We have many of the popular "big game" hunting rifles but this is the one should we have to hit the ground running.

An excellent weapon.
