Makarov 9X18 pistol

Since the topic is "surplus firearms" and not "surplus rifles", I assume it's OK to put in a plug for for my trusty Mak. Like most Russian firearms, it's simple, reliable, and easy to work on. There are (or at least were) boatloads of surplus Makarovs on the market, all "handpicked" if you believe the dealers trying to sell them. Sadly, many of them are worn-out. I looked for several months before I found one in really good condition, and paid $275 for it with two magazines. I have several CC guns I can carry, but the Mak is now my weapon of choice.
On the down side, the sights are not great. Took a while to get use to them, but I'm now reasonable accurate with the gun. The somewhat oddball 9X18 ammo might be a challenge to obtain in some places, you're certainly not going to buy it at the local WalMart. Still, I've found excellent deals on-line to purchase the ammo, and there is (or again was) a good amount of surplus Russian ammo available.
