M1 Carbine

U.S. Military Surplus M1 Carbine

U.S. Military Surplus M1 Carbine

Makes an excellent little rifle for survival. It is small, compact, and can be made more so with a M1A1 or similar folding stock. It has enough power for anything up to deer, yet still wont completely destroy smaller game like other high powered rifles. With a 15 or 30 round mag, you can put lead down in a hurry should a predator decide to make you its lunch. Just stay away from FMJ unless you want some severe over penetration.

remington makes .30 carbine brass unprimed and sells them in bulk if you are a reloader amd remington maked bullets in 110 grain FMJ and SP this is for reloaders .for people that dont reload you can buy rounds from these companies the companie PPU make 110 grain soft points and you can buy them in 50 200 and 400 rounds together for 200 rounds its 89.00 dollars which is 44 cents a round .another compinie that makes these rounds is HERTER'S they make also 110 grain bullets but theres are FMJyou can buy them in 50 500 and 1000 rounds and for 1000 rounds its only 329.00 dollars which is 32 cents a round and if you buy 500 its 169.00 dollars which is 33 cents a round which i think is a GREAT deal.and just to name companies so that i am not typing all day are remington, and i think hornady makes them every once in a while . hope i helped a bunch. chris

M1 Carbine

for a get out weapon I don't think you can beat this rifle. It light, short, has a 30 round mag and is battle tested.

It also fits in a big back-pack. along with the rest of your survival stuff. As for that stuff, get a good stove, no not a gas one a wood one. Some of the companies are making a cone shaped model that is very very light and it folds up very easy. I use one of them with my canoe pack, they also fit in a small day pack.

Get a regular camp pot with a lid and you have everything you need to prepare a meal or to boil water.

Another idea is to change the stock into one of these folding type, if the marines on Iwo didn't need it I don't need it either.

Another type weapon if you can master it is a take apart re curve bow, Its also quiet and can kill anything you come across for food without waking up the neighbors.

Always think light, always think do I really need this.

A large weapon is heavy and so is the ammo, can I get along with a lighter one. Always carry a pocket knife, I like the traditional boy scout knife. as for a fork knife spoon set. your don't really need them but it helps and keeps you grounded.

Things get complicated in a survival setting in an urban area, get out quick and find a temp home, the army will fix the rest.

M1 Carbine
by: SP Mann Everett, PA USA

Yes I know its not a great round, but you get 30 of them when its loaded with a long mag. 30 rounds from any rifle is better than 5 or 6 regardless of the cal.

Its light, its easy to carry, everything for it is cheaper and it will fit nicely in a full size back-pack.

Oh yes one more thing, Its been in three wars and used by different size people with some of them having little or no training.

Yes I like my carbine regardless of its small round.

As a cop I carried a 38 revolver and later a 9MM and I never felt I was unarmed and both the 9mm and the 38 are a lot smaller that the 30 cal carbine.

M1 Cabine

Yes its hard to find ammo. but its light compact and easy to carry around. and u can convert it if you can find the kit with a folding stock, and maybe full auto if lucky. .30 carbine might not be a knock down bullet but its reliable.

buy M1A
by: Brassdropper

Carl,
Try this link... I am not affiliated with them in any way, so i cant recommend or comment on them, but they seem to know they're M1A, and they have some links that might be a good place to get started. Also try budsgunshop.com ...they seem to get decent reviews from customers.

Will you buy one for me too ? :-)

Great little rifle
by: Anonymous

Has plenty of power to stop a man and is plenty accurate. Mine was mfg in 1943 and it runs like a champ. Finding ammo(.30 carbine)can present a problem but thats the only drawback of this firearm.

M-1 Carbine
by: Bob Grimes, Alabama

My rifle is a standard military issue M-1 Carbine with a 30 round clip. It is deadly on small game, and as it was designed for is a proven man-stopper. Thirty rounds of 110 grain projectiles will stop all but large game.

M1 one of my favorites
by: Frank

I like this little rifle so much that I have two of them. One for the wife, perfect size for carry
in the vehicle in a SHTF scenario, with 15 or 30 round magazines they offer acceptable firepower in a compact package.
