Coleman Candle Lantern

Coleman Candle Lantern

Coleman Candle Lantern Original Candle Lantern

Recently, I discovered a pretty cool piece of gear that I had never owned. IT is a very simple piece of equipment, and fairly inexpensive. The Candle Lantern can not only provide light, but also substantial heat. As I understand it, in most of the North Western states, the DOT etc. in those states tells people to keep at least two candles in their car during the winter seasons. The concept is that if you get stranded in one of those secluded areas, the heat from the candle can raise the temp inside the vehicle enough to keep you from freezing to death. The problem is that a lighted candle with an open flame inside of a car can also be dangerous. The candle lantern offers two important safety measures here, 1) is that the candle is contained inside of a glass globe with a cage around it so if it falls over etc. you wont burn yourself up in your car. 2)By putting it inside the lantern structure, it dissipates its heat slower and thus allows heat to build up and the result is MORE heat because it dissipates more slowly. They only cost around $20. I have two types, one is a coleman sold at the evil wal-mart for $15. The other is American made, and it is my favorite, it collapses in on itself to protect the globe and makes it more compact for storage. It is called the original candle lantern and the small one like mine cost around $20. They do sell larger versions, but they would not be good for the vehicle due to size and construction.
