Some people don't like Gerbers but my Prodigy is the best knife I've handled. Serrations on exactlya half of the blade and its a great chopper. Not a huge knife but all I need. Great comfy handle and amazing sheath. Two bottom snaps over the handle and a friction lock also to hold it in. Sharp, strong, edge retention's good, and cheap. Older brother to the Prodigy is the LMF II and it's just as amazing then some. A lot of some. Never handled one, but I've seen it under $80. List price around $150. I say the LMF II is worth $280 at least, but it's way less. I'd say Gerber Prodigy worth $120. Just my opinion. (Back to the Prodigy)Glass pomell on bottom full tang.

Gerber Prodigy

Recently I purchased one of these knives and agree with the comments already made. It is tough little knife with lots of features and will take care of you out in the woods or wherever you are.

Gerber prodigy & LMFII, bet your life on them
by: Anthony Twidale

Jamie C. knows a good knife when he sees one.
I rate both these as probably the best value for money survival knives in the world today. The ceramic sharpening rods integrated into the sheath
plus the sheaths modular design allows for different styles of carry , but when talking about [survival], it's all about the blade and point.
Hard enough to retain an edge but soft enough to restore a razor sharp edge when the need arrises is as simple as one or two runs though the sheath over the ceramic rods.
Blades are coated to prevent rusting and the modern non-slip rubber coated grip give the knives a feeling of safety, confidence and purpose.
Also, like sex and John J Rambo, current trends have proven you dont need something thats 12" long strapped on your hip to get the job done.
Bear Grylls, Ray Mears, Les Straud and "Wilderness Outfitters" Dave Canterbury have all given these Gerber knives very favourable revues.
I recently carried my Gerber when i had to walk 190km's out of my hunting area after a collossal vehicle breakdown. It took me 8 days, i did it easy and the gerber made it through razor sharp even after using it to skin, cut shelters, dig out native honey from trees, stick and butcher all maner of game from a couple of feral hogs to a kangaroo and a young buffalo bull.
Two swipes through the sheath when i got home and i would have been ready to do it all again.
