Best overall survival rifle is...

To me, the best overall survival rifle is a civilian legal clone of an AK-47. The rifle should have a folding stock and a side-mounted 4X or 4 power magnification scope mounted on it. The scope should have illuminated reticles for use at night or in the daylight. The folding stock lets me reduce its overall length so I can use it in cramped places or pack it away in a rucksack. The 7.62 X 39 cartridge is limited in its range but out to about 300 meters it is a very effective round for hunting deer, feral pigs or stopping bad guys. I am not talking about trying to make an AK type rifle into a sniper rifle. What the 4X scope does is enhance the accuracy of the rifle in general by giving it a better sighting system. When you couple the caliber of the rifle, a simple 4X scope and the folding stock on it, this version of the AK rifle is simply the most practical survival rifle that one could carry or buy anywhere.
