Bear Grylls Gerber

by Spook45
(TN Hills)

Over this past weekend, I had the opertunity to crawl all over the Bear Grylls Gerber survival knife. I was relitively impressed. The knife was as well made as you would expect from Gerber. The design appears to be modeled after the Trident model, it has a hammer type knurled pommel and the blade design is basicly the same as the Gerber LMF II. It has a fire striker on the front of the sheath that is very addiquate. IT has a diamond hone made into the back of the sheath under the belt hanger. It has a wrist throng with a small whistle on the end. The blade also has a cutaway on the back that is used with the striker. At a cost of around $50, this knife is great piece and at that price its a bargain. The only negitive I can find is just a personal pet peave, I dont like the flare orange colors. I realize this knife is marketed to civilians, but I prefer things dark and subdued so as not to give away my position. That can be remidied with some spray paint.

This knife represents excellent value for money. It is a slightly scaled down version of the Gerber Prodogy/LMFII suited to smaller hands. The flint rod, whistle and survival info included are purposeful and handy. (It's also 3 extra things you dont have to carry in your pockets).
I think alot of people may be turned off a little by the instantly recognisable logo and colour of the knife/sheath thinking the product might represent some sort of "tryhard" or "weekend warrior" type survivalist.
I see the knife for what it is, a great design, handy and tough. Get one for the wife or kids and i guarentee you'll be playing around with it more than them.
And if Santa left me one in my stocking this christmas i wouldnt feel disapointed.
