Australian survival - Rod Ansell

by Anthony Twidale
(Dunnrock, Australia)

The late "Rod Ansell", the bloke Crocodile Dundee was based on wrote that if he was in a survival situation and had to make a choice between having only a good knife or a firearm, he would pick the knife everytime.
Rod was famous for surviving over 3 months in the rugged australian outback in the Northern Territory on his own after he was knocked out of his boat by a large croc.
For good aussie books about wilderness survival look up;
To fight the wild - rod ansell
Left for dead - ricky magee
Alone across Australia - Jon Muir
Strap a flint rod to all of your knives and you have just increased your chances of survival 100%

the old woodman choice
by: mep canada

for wilderness survival situation a solid knife
whit saw on the top of the blade is a good choice
but remember the old woodman, they carry an axe any where they go, axeman make what they need for survive in the wild whit an axe ex.:a good shack,
traps, tools, fire wood, raft and many more so don't make a choice and carry this 2 indispensable tools + you can include a small buck saw,a good wool blanket, extra strong thin rope and stainless steel wire, now you have a basic survival kit

Absolutely correct
by: Carl Rooker

I would go even further in saying that if I could only have one item to carry into a survival situation, it would be a good knife.

A good knife is a tool than can be used to do just about anything one might need, including making weapons to hunt and defend oneself with. A gun is used for shooting things. It can be used as a club in a pinch, or a pole for shelter building.

A good knife is much more valuable.
