An unusal item

For my main wilderness survival kits, and bug out kits I have always included a couple of books. Sure, they take up space and weight, but in an emergency one might not be thinking well. So I have always thought it would be a good idea to include some reference books. A survival manual, a book on edible wild plants, first aid, etc.
However, I just bought a Kindle. In this electronic book I can store 3500 books, and it is just a little bit bigger than the Reader's Digest magazine. The batteries last for weeks, even in constant use, and are easy to charge. With it's leather cover it is fairly sturdy, and I can store it in a ziplock bag to keep the water out.
What is really nice is the low cost of books through this medium. I have spent an average of $4 per book so far. Some of the classics are even free.
Now, if I should find myself in a situation, I have (at this time) 7 manuals, and a large number of recreational books. As time goes on, I will have many more. And, I can take these books anywhere, at anytime.
If you think that recreational books are trivial in a survival situation, then consider this. After you have done the things you need to survive, a good book can go a long way in keeping your morale up. A good mental attitude can be the best defense in such situations.
