Ak47 standard rifle (Any variant aside from the thumhole stock version.)

by George Macidy

Ak 47 Standard issue

Ak 47 Standard issue

the AK 47 standard issue is still fairly readily available, ammunition is still inexpensive, Its powerful enough to take down just about any medium to large game animal with a single well placed shot, it has a reasonable effective range, and it can be used for personal defense as well. The AK47 is easy to clean and maintain, and can be upgraded with readily available after market parts to fit your personal preferences. Its extremely reliable in all weather conditions, and almost never jams. It can accept different sizes of magazines from the common 10 rnd version to the very hard to find 100 rnd drum. It can reliably feed many types of ammunition to include, FMJ, Hollow Point, Soft Point, and specialty ammo.
(I was able to kill a 400lb live weight Russian boar with it in one shot, using the hollow point ammo.) The animal did not run after being shot, and dropped within seconds. (I would not suggest using this rifle for home defense as the rounds tend to over penetrate solid objects like doors, and walls, and may continue down range to potentially harm an innocent person.)...Unless of course you happen to get overrun by zombies or something of that nature, then Its all good.

Typical Russian Reliability
by: glenn

You just have to admire russian firearms (e.g. AK47, Mosin Nagant, SKS) for their rugged reliability, and simplicity! I own a Mosin Nagant model 1891/30, and the more I shoot it, the more I learn to love it. Dependability is rule #1 for me with any firearm. By the way, I've heard that overpenetration is something of a myth or urban legend. Overpenetration is only a concern if you miss your intended target! Happy shooting!
