A word about MATCHES....

Lots of different types and brands of matches and most are comparable to each other. I personally try to only buy the strike any where flavor for obvious reason. Recently while shopping, I noticed a large qty of strike anywheres and decided to buy some. They are a brand I have heard before but never used. They are called penley, Being from the south, I have always traditionaly used Diamond brand, made in USA strike anywhere etc. They are really good matches. The Penleys however, I must say do not perform very well at all. NOw at this point, most people are probly asking themselves"How much PERFORMANCE does one expect from a match?" Well, Diamonds typically strike well, have a good strong stick and burn very consistently. That may not much in the day to day, but when are you are wet, cold and on the verge of hypothermia, EVERYTHING matters. The Penleys strike really well, but for some reason, they don't continue to burn well and they don't burn consistently at all. They are also made in Chile, the company is from Maine but they say MADE IN CHILE on the box and you can tell by little subtleties that they are imported. My point is that You get what you pay for and if it aint broke dont fix it. I will be sticking with DIAMOND brand matches from now on.
