Powerlock
The Sog Powerlock is one of eight different multi-tool products
available from Sog. Most of them can be ordered in multiple
configurations. The Powerlock itself comes in either polished
stainless steel or a stealthy looking black oxide version.
After you decide which finish to go with, you have to decide
if you want the scissors or the optional V-cutter, an integrated strap
and cord cutting tool. We like the v-cutter, 9 times out of
10 a knife will do whatever it is you needed a scissors for, especially
in a survival situation. If you plan to use a multi-tool
every day however, you should compare all models and features and get
the tools you need on board.

SOG Powerlock
| Another
version of the powerlock is called the EOD powerlock, for explosive
ordinance disposal. Now you may or may not be in the
explosive
ordinance disposal business, but you have to admit owning a multi-tool
that has explosive ordinance in the description has a certain appeal to
it. The main difference in the EOD version and the regular
powerlock
is a crimping tool inside the handles for crimping blasting caps and
demolition cords. | |
| Another
stand-out feature on most SOG multi-tools, including the
powerlock, is "Compound Leverage". This is a
proprietary gear system
in the hinge that applies twice the pressure to the jaws of the pliers
than with a conventional hinge setup. This is extremely
appreciated
during repetitive cutting or gripping tasks. The Paratool,
another SOG
multi-tool model does not come with the compound leverage feature, but
makes up for it with its multiple angled plier head capability. |

All Sog knives are guaranteed against
defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original
purchaser, so again, keep your receipt if you buy one. As
with any Sog knife, you can get it engraved from the factory for
$12.00. The SOG powerlock comes with a heavy duty leather sheath
with snap closure. MSRP is
$105, you should be able to find one for around $70.
