Gerber LMF II - ASEK
Developed in close consultation
with
the military the Gerber LMF II ASEK (aircrew survival and
egress knife) is a definite
contender. It comes with a well made sheath with an
integrated sharpener, and a safety knife and sheath for cutting straps
and belts. The handle is really comfortable and
feels secure in
your hand. The drop point blade is 12c27 stainless steel, 4.84 inches
long and painted black.
A
lot of survival knives have been put to the test in Iraq &
afghanistan over the past few years, the Gerber LMF II is one of them.
It has been highly praised by members of the
military. Soldiers who tested it, didnt want to give it back.
The "Skullcrusher" butt of the LMF II is designed for
breaking plexiglass and glass on the way out of your downed helicopter.
It also adds another business end to the knife in
a hand to hand situation, as the name suggests. The blade is
designed to cut through an aircraft fuselage...in case thats a
requirement you might have.
The Knife is
available in 2 versions, "ASEK" which comes with the safety
knife shown below, and the "Infantry" which does
not. Prices range from $75 to $125, but
as of February 2010, it has been selling
in the low $60's, with sheath.
