Cold Steel
Recon1
|
|
The Cold Steel Recon1, an all black
tactical offering from cold steel. According to the company,
the Recon1 is "tough as nails and cuts like a chainsaw".
The G10 handle has 5 bolts and heat treated steel liners
for increased strength. The handle has a groove in it
to allow for ease of use when opening with the thumb stud, a
nice feature. The pocket clip on the Recon1 is a small
ambidextrous stainless steel clip designed to be as
un-obtrusive in the palm as possible. The handle also
features Cold Steels proprietary "Ultra-Lock" system, which is
meant to make lock failure next to
impossible.

The AUS 8A blade has a black
teflon coating and measures 4". Overall length is 9-1/3".
The teflon helps with corrosion resistance, reduces glare
(not helpful if you are trying to signal with the blade), and
reduces friction between the blade and the material being cut.
The blade is available in Clip Point, Spear Point, and Tanto
styles. A half serrated blade is available in all three
styles, however the spear point comes in half-serrated only, with no
straight blade offered.
The Cold Steel recon1
comes with a 1 year warranty (cold steel warranty is 1 year on
folders & 5 years on fixed blades). As with most cutlery
companies they to do not cover damage caused by abuse or
misuse. They will sharpen your knife for you at any time, but
they do charge a fee of $10 for fixed blades and $7 for folders.
This may not be a bad price to pay if you dont feel
comfortable sharpening your own blade, they will put a razor's edge
back on your knife for you. Most Cold Steel knives are
manufactured in Japan, Taiwan or China.
