most of the old woodman and pionner have a 12 gauge side by side shotgun for protection or for hunding many different animal ex.(bear,deer,rabbit,goose)
ok,you don't make long shot whit a shotgun but you have a big choice of ammunition for a lot of hunting situation ex.(slug,buck shot,#4,#6,#7¼)in a survival situation versatility,simplicity,and efficiency make the difference
